Additional Opportunities for Worship

Join us for Morning Prayer, sometimes known as Matins, a set of prescribed prayers and readings from The Book of Common Prayer, that includes psalms, scripture readings, a confession of sins, the Apostles' Creed, and various prayers and intercessions for the day. This liturgy is used daily by individuals and congregations to set aside time for worship, to hear God's word, and to ask for mercy and guidance at the start of a new day. Join us on Zoom here.
Bring your day to a close and prepare for a peaceful night with Evening Prayer (also known as Evensong), a worship service devised by Thomas Cranmer for the 1549 Book of Common Prayer. This service brings together many elements of the older monastic offices of Vespers and Compline, particularly their respective canticles the Magnificat (Luke 1) and the Nunc dimittis (Luke 2). Join us on Zoom here.
A Midweek Eucharist is offered each Wednesday at noon in the Chapel (September – May). During this Eucharist service, we say the Litany of Healing, and a healing prayer is also offered.
Experience worship in a familiar, but special, evening candlelight service. In a contemplative atmosphere, we share beautiful music, moments of silence, lighting of candles, collective prayers, scripture readings, a simple homily, and Holy Eucharist.

Our Celtic worship service is inspired by the liturgical traditions of early Celtic Christians from Ireland and the Isle of Iona.

Founded in the sixth century, this worship is traditional, yet unique; is Christ centered, yet acknowledges the many ways we encounter God on our earthly journey. Everyone is welcome to join us on the third Sunday of each month to follow this beautiful Celtic tradition of worship.
We know that the hustle and bright lights of traditional Christmas celebrations are not right for everyone. For those who are hurting, grieving, or simply needing a calm and contemplative Christmas worship, we offer A Grace Filled Christmas. This meditative, candlelit service provides space to acknowledge pain and loss through reflective music, prayers, Scripture, and candle lighting, reminding participants they are not alone and offering hope in the midst of suffering.
Church of the Ascension's annual Procession for All Hallows' Eve is drawn from the Episcopal Book of Occasional Services, in which there is provision for a liturgical service for the end of October.  Ascension's Procession combines appropriate Scripture (War in Heaven, Vision of Eliphaz the Temanite, Valley of the Dry Bones, Witch of Endor) with matching anthems in the choral repertoire as rendered by the Parish Choir.  The 40 minute service starts in the cemetery on the hill above the church, an indicated option in the Book of Occasional Services.

What follows is a harvest festival (Boo Bash) in the church's Parish Hall.  All are invited to attend -- in costume if desired -- to eat dinner (heavy hors d'oeuvres along with desserts) and socialize.  A not-so-haunted house is the pièce de résistance, but there will also be a costume parade for young ones and distribution of candy at the festival's conclusion.  Young and old alike can bring their whimsical selves to enjoy Ascension's version of fall's most fun-filled holiday!
