When those outside our church family find themselves in crisis, Church of the Ascension provides multiple opportunities for you to help. Through our partnerships with other agencies, our service and outreach ministries provide shelter, meals, and support to the homeless; collect toys, clothing and life essentials for struggling families; and share friendship and compassion with those looking for a more positive path in their lives.
Family Promise
Ascension participates in Family Promise, a community, church-based provides housing for homeless families, providing shelter, meals, and support for one week each quarter. There are various ways to support this program - buying groceries, laundering bedding, chaperoning overnight, etc.

FISH Hospitality Pantries
We partner with FISH, which serves packages of food to over 7,000 families at their four neighborhood pantries in Knoxville. Ascension helped establish FISH Hospitality Pantries in 1986 and it continues to be a vital program to our parish, with many parishioners helping deliver and serve food packages, as well as provide leadership and financial support.

Grace To Go
This is a pastoral care ministry that provides food to those in need of a good meal. Our parishioners prepare and package meals that are stored at the church, ready to be shared with parishioners and those outside our church.

Justice Knox
Justice Knox is supported by Ascension members who work with a coalition of faith groups and churches to hold community leaders accountable to justice and fairness on such Knoxville-area issues as fair school detention policies, law enforcement training in mental illness response, and fair and accessible housing.

LAMBS Pet Ministry
LAMBS’ mission is to support stewardship of our animal companions by offering assistance for their care to their humans in need. LAMBS offers a pet prayer list for church members and their immediate family; pastoral support for pet owners by our clergy; pet foods; and funding drives for community-based pantries, animal programs and services; as well as special events, including Ascenion’s annual Blessing of the Animal service, which opens the doors for our pets to attend church and be blessed. LAMBS also provides transportation assistance to parishioners unable to transport their pet(s) to veterinary services and temporary assistance to parishioners incapacitated and unable to care for their pets.
