This group practices Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer together each week to
support the daily prayer practices of the participants, according to the guidelines
of Contemplative Outreach.
The Daily Offices are offered in the chapel, or “old transept” of the sanctuary,
every morning and evening during the week. These short services include
scripture readings, prayers for members of the community, and offer a time for
contemplation during a busy week.
Morning Prayer: Monday – Friday at 7:00 am
Evening Prayer: Monday – Friday at 5:45 pm
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a non-credit extension program of the University
of the South School of Theology. Continuing Education Unit credits are available.
EfM is a four-year program covering the Old Testament in the first year, the New
Testament in the second year, Church History in the third year, and Theology in the
fourth year.*

At Church of the Ascension music is for everyone!
Two choral groups, Parish Choir and the Boys and Girls Choir, sing each Sunday
morning at the later worship service (September through May). In addition
to Sunday mornings, the Parish Choir sings in a number of special programs
throughout the year.
Two other ensembles, the Ascension Handbell Choir and the Ascension Schola, are
also important components to Ascension’s music program.
PARISH CHOIR —
Church of the Ascension has an outstanding adult choir. Choir rehearsals are
Wednesdays, 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
BOYS AND GIRLS CHOIR —
Our children’s choir is comprised of children age seven and older at Ascension.
Rehearsals are offered on both Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4:45 - 6:00 pm, with
children having the choice of practicing either day.
HANDBELL CHOIR —
Ascension’s handbell choir periodically performs during Sunday morning worship.
Rehearsals are Monday evenings, 6:45 - 8:00 pm.
This group assists priests in Sunday services and other special services.
Daughters of the King is a religious order for women who are communicants of
the Episcopal, Anglican, Anglican Evangelical, Lutheran or Roman Catholic church
pledged to lifelong prayer, service and evangelism dedicated to spreading Christ’s
kingdom and strengthening the spiritual life of the parish.
Children’s Church: During the Sunday morning church service, this ministry
provides a special place and services for children where they hear a Bible lesson,
pray together and respond to the day’s lesson through various activities and
discussions.
Nursery: This is a caregiving ministry to our youngest members and visitors —
available during church services and other events throughout the year.
Vacation Bible School is held annually in June. Ascension’s VBS is a fun, hands-on
learning experience for young children to engage in spiritual centered adventure.
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available for those who are interested.
Youth Groups: There are two active groups; one for middle school kids in grades
6 – 8 and the other for high school students in grades 9 – 12. Both groups enjoy
frequent fellowship, Bible study and outings together. Both High School and
Middle School youth are involved in service projects, hiking, community outings,
including youth retreats at Grace Point. Get involved with youth happenings and
volunteer to help!
The Altar Guild groups prepare and clean the altar before/after Sunday services and
other services. Each groups is responsible for church services one week per month.
During worship services chancel masters coordinate participation of other lay
ministries to ensure a smooth and meaningful worship experience.
Ushers greet parishioners and visitors, distribute the Sunday morning service
sheets, assist in seating, offering, and the Holy Eucharist.
Soundboard Operators assist with the operation of the sound equipment while
Livestream Operators assist with the operation of the livestreaming/video/camera
equipment for the services and other events at Ascension.
This group arranges the flowers for each Sunday service, weddings, holidays,
funerals, and other special occasion at Ascension.
Eucharistic Visitors administer the consecrated elements of the Eucharist to
members of the congregation who are unable to be present at church for the
celebration because of illness or infirmities.
Eucharistic ministers assist clergy with the distribution of Communion during services.
A well-stocked library full of resources on a variety of topics are available to anyone who would like to borrow materials.
This group reads scripture and prayers at Sunday services as well as funerals.
Are you interested in Icon Art? Ascension is a part of an ecumenical group
composed of individuals who gather at least twice a month to write religious icons,
meditate and enjoy fellowship.
