WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

Dear Ascension Family,

No matter how hard we try, we never really know what lies ahead, do we? We never really know what God has in store for us as individuals or as a parish, do we?

In spite of this gap in our knowledge of what is in store for us as a parish, the ebbs and flows in recent years in the remarkable life of Ascension establish certainty of one pillar in which we can all trust, namely:

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

As we all know, those ebbs and flows, or as some might describe them, the highs and the lows, have been real. From new clergy leadership, to pandemic life, to post pandemic recovery, on to more new clergy leadership, our life together as a church family has been strengthened because:

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

Through the loving witness of our clergy and fellow parishioners we have been encouraged and reminded during this period of uncertainty. In 2018 we were reminded to “Walk In Love” so as to transform lives all around us. In 2020 we were encouraged that the mission of Ascension continued in strength with God’s grace as we moved “Forward In Faith.” In 2021 by “His Gifts, by Grace,” we were reminded that everything we are blessed to have - time, talent, and treasure - are all gifts from God to us. We help Ascension survive and thrive by returning to God that which is His own. In 2022 we commenced “Walking Home Together” with new clergy leadership to pursue all the work God was calling us to do. Finally, in 2023 through “Tending God’s Love” we were challenged to open our doors and our hearts to all, so our many ministries could offer support both inside and outside of Ascension. Through all of these “seasons,” we constantly relied on one another because:

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

As we each reflect on our own journeys and listen to other parishioners express feelings about their own journeys, be mindful of the many ways that God is blessing you, and how you are blessing your church family by what you are doing here in Ascension. One blessing that has been a constant throughout all these ebbs and flows, and frankly that has enabled us all to stay “in this together,” is our current staff, clergy and our bishop. The support provided to all of us by them, and the confidence expressed in us by the unique opportunity with Father Christopher going forward, cannot be overstated. We are all very grateful.

All our work together at Ascension is important but we wish to highlight two areas where your contributions are especially appreciated. Our parish cannot operate successfully with only one full-time and two volunteer clergy. Thankfully, we have hired The Rev. Amy Morehous as Senior Associate Rector. Moreover, in today’s world, truly impacting the lives of our children in a Godly way will require more than a part-time youth minister and the programming budget that now exists. The support of “All of Us Together”will allow us to meet these needs, and to support the other ministries that are at the heart of this special place. Please see the attached general summary of the parish’s financial picture which will be explained further during the Annual Parish Meeting that is scheduled on December 8, 2024.

The Stewardship committee greatly appreciates your taking the time to read this letter and your support of our church family.
