Hit the Greens For Grace Point
Please join us for the inaugural golf tournament benefiting Grace Point Camp and Retreat Center on Monday, July 8th from 8am - 1pm. This event is raising money for the recent construction of a beautiful retreat center and new cabins at Grace Point. Individual registration is $150 per person. Team registration is $560.

Journey through the Bible
Join Alexander Thomas in room 209
on Thursdays at 11:45am as we continue our journey throught the Bible. Currently in the book of Exodus, this class combines historical and literary context with devotional study of the Hebrew Bible.

Centering Prayer with Lectio Divina
This group meets at 4:00 pm in the church library. Centering prayer is an open meeting, and all are invited.
The format includes 20 minutes of silent centering prayer, recitation of The Lord’s Prayer, three readings, and discussion of the gospel for the next Sunday (Lectio Devina) followed by circle prayer.

Prayer Labyrinth Walk
As part of Ascension's Becoming Beloved Community initiative in 2020, Labyrinth walks were started as a way to "take a closer walk with God" every Sunday afternoon. Other Events
On Wednesday, March 6, we will go to Big Creek, a popular trail with the Trekkers at all times of the year. There is plenty of parking and the wide, well trod trail may include some stream crossings if there has been much rain. We'll pass Midnight Hole (a wading/swimming spot in hot weather) and Mouse Creek Falls and likely have our lunch at our turn-around spot on a large bridge spanning Big Creek. The total mileage is about 4.5 easy-moderate miles and is considered by many as one of the most beautiful and interesting walks in the Smokies. Carpooling will be from Ascension at 8:30 am to meet at the trailhead at 10 am. For those preferring to meet at the trailhead: Take I-40E to the Waterville Exit #451, bearing left after crossing the Pigeon River, staying on that road past the water treatment area to a 4-way intersection. Going through that intersection, the road will dead end at the Big Creek parking area on the left. Contact Marlys Staudt (staudtmarlys@gmail.com)with your cell/text number if wanting to participate so she'll be able to contact you if there are any last minute changes.
On Saturday, March 16, we'll travel again to NC to reach the well known Max Patch Bald and be awed by the 360 degree views and trails around it. Once off I-40, the 6 mile gravel road can seem much longer and parking can be a challenge on a weekend in warm weather so carpooling is strongly recommended (although it likely will be cool and windy in March). Ascension will again be the meetup place for carpooling at 8:30am for the less than 2 hr drive, taking the Harmon Den Exit 7 for a 10:15 meeting at the trailhead. The exact trails and mileage have not been decided (anywhere from 4-8 likely). There are no restrooms so be prepared. If we're lucky, we may see early wildflowers and some Appalachian Trail through hikers. A leader has yet to emerge so meanwhile, let Marlys know your contact info so we can get details to you closer to the date.
The Easy Monday walk will be our final outing on Monday, March 18 on the Townsend River Walk and Arboretum, starting at the Tuckaleechee Campground United Methodist Church. The entire length is about 9 miles but the leader will decide which 3-mile roundtrip section to walk on this date. Carpooling will be from the Northshore Kroger to Townsend at 9:30am. Details will be published in the Heavenly Post closer to the date but notify Marlys (again) so those details can be sent to you via email and/or text. The church is on the right on Hwy 321 at the corner of Old Tuckaleechee Rd in Townsend (37882).
