Purpose of Ministry: Driving Miss Daisy (DMD) – aka Hauling Master Horace - is a program at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension that provides transportation services to various church functions for persons who have this need, temporarily or on a regular schedule. This program is in keeping with Christ’s charge to all of His followers to make His words known to all who desire to hear, to make His Eucharistic banquet available to all who wish to partake, and to provide His loving fellowship to all who want access. Arrangements for pickup and return at private homes, assisted-living centers, retirement centers, etc., can be made by calling the church secretary (588-0589) during normal business hours.
Number of Hours Expected to Be Needed Each Month: This program is an equal volunteer opportunity (male or female) with drivers using the church’s 15-passenger van or private autos as appropriate. Volunteer drivers normally would be called to provide their services about once every two months or so, more frequently if desired
Meeting Requirements: Specific scheduling of the drivers and off-hours emergency scheduling of pickups or cancellations will be handled by the DMD co-chairs, Rick Deaderick and Bert Ackermann
Explanation: Persons wishing to volunteer to provide this valuable driving service should contact either of the Driving Miss Daisy co-chairs listed above. Prior certification for driving the church van is required which entails providing your driver’s license number.
